1.Consider shipping your gifts. In most cases, it’s safer to ship your gifts to your destination than packing them as checked luggage – as long as you do so at least a week before the Christmas rush! Sending your gifts via courier includes insurance and tracking – whereas lost airline luggage might not even offer that!
2. For valuable and fragile gifts, consider purchasing priority boarding with your flight ticket. Priority boarding means first dibs on overhead compartment space and then you can also make sure that your gifts are stowed directly above your seat. Some airlines are known to stow carry-on luggage in the hold if the overhead compartments fill up.
3. Learn some packing hacks! Roll not fold! Folding clothes will take up space in your bag so it would be best if you roll your clothes to get more space for gifts and treats. To fit more in, use zip locks or vacuum pack it. Pack bottled goods (wine, jar of your amazing preserves, etc) easily by packing them between your shoes to ensure it travels safely!
4. Do not wrap gifts, especially if you intend to carry them on the plane! Even in checked baggage, there is a strong chance they will be unwrapped for inspection by security personnel. Consider gift bags instead of wrapping paper this holiday season -- you can easily remove the items from their bags if required and you don't have to do a last-minute wrapping job at your destination.
