New York City is widely considered a world centre of finance, shopping, fashion, culture and design, and with Globehunters, it’s never been cheaper to fly from London to New York.

From the skyscrapers of Manhattan to the shops of Fifth Avenue, the lights of Broadway to the symbol of freedom, the Statue of Liberty, there’s plenty to see and do in New York, and there’s little wonder that it’s one of the most popular destinations for UK travellers.

There’s an abundance of sights to see in New York, whether it be the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, or the home of the United Nations. One of the best ways to experience them all is on a river cruise around the island of Manhattan.

There are also loads of great galleries and museums to explore, and shows to see on Broadway, or you could spend hours just strolling around Central Park.

In terms of weather, New York can be a bit extreme, with highs of 29°C in the summer and lows of -3°C in the winter.

New York is actually the most popular destination from London Heathrow, with many airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, Delta, United, Lufthansa and more offering direct flights.

There are also direct flights available from Gatwick to JFK through British Airways and Norwegian Air, with flights from either airport taking around eight hours.

Upon arrival at JFK, a typical taxi will set you back around $55 (about £45) but once you’re in Manhattan, it’s easy to get around via buses, trains, taxis, and of course, the subway.

Remember that before arrival in the US you’ll need to fill out an ESTA form to be eligible for the Visa Waiver Programme or else you risk being turned away!

Also remember that you’re expected to tip in America, and the likes of bar staff and concierges will all expect a tip of a dollar or two, whereas restaurant staff will expect between 15 and 20% of the bill.
