One of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, Cape Town is home to the majestic Table Mountain, and sandy white beaches and bays, so it’s no wonder so many people choose to visit it each year.

Situated right on the tip of Africa, on the Western Cape, Cape Town is characterised by rugged coastlines and mountains which give it a spectacular backdrop, as well as plenty to see and do.

As well as the fantastic Table Mountain, you should also try to visit the Bo-Kaap district, where the houses are painted in lots of vibrant pastel colours.

The area is also home to a museum exploring the lives of the many Muslims and freed slaves who lived in the district after slavery was abolished.

You may also want to take a day trip out to Robben Island, which is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

In terms of outdoor activities, the surrounding landscape offers the opportunity to try your hand at the likes of paragliding, bungee jumping, mountain biking and even diving with sharks.

South Africa is also famous for its wine, and there are a number of vineyards you can visit just outside of the city such as Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl.

And of course, you can’t visit Africa without taking in some of the local wildlife and at the Solole Game reserve. You’ll find black rhinos, antelopes, buffaloes and more, all in their natural habitats.
